Slashing It Up

It could be my cabin fever kicking in but I thought this was pretty amazing. Slash from Guns & Roses riding his bmx bike all hammered before the show. A classic. Guns N' Roses - Slash brings his bike out on tour

Since every blog and it's Mom used that last picture, here's somethin' else.
The keyboard intro around a minute is too good. Wait for it...wait for it..

Seeing as it's December in like seven minutes and we're tossing out the love to our fellow two-wheeled rivals, I am posting up the nicest beer label modification in cyberspace today.
The best holiday beer I've consumed this winter has been Anderson Valley's Winter Solstice. The best name however is (was) Full Sail's "Wreck the Halls" which has been replaced by Wassail Winter. Bikes & Rec have a winter race coming up too, go here for the skinny.
Bicycles and beers, does it get any better? Really?

I Velopirati.

In case you've stopped checking out the Velopirates blog due some inactivity it is time time put them back into your blog checking rotation. The Velopirates seemed to have employed a new staff of contributing writers and have been posting with fervor and regularity. Whether these new contributors are indeed Velopirates has yet to be confirmed.

How not to lock your bike up

How can someones bike locked up like this survive a night with bike theft happening fairly frequent lately. Maybe the wierd bars made it undesirable to thievery.

So the original plan was for Erin (Wife) and Me to go out together to see Holly Golightly and have some cocktails. It was all set. But the night before the show our youngest girl was a fevered mess. Erin graciously stayed home with the kids while I got a chance to see the show. After talking with Holly about the Headcoatees playing Bimbo's (SF) some twelve years ago and about Erin and an under the weather Isadora I asked her for her autograph for Erin and she wrote a pretty nice note. Cool.

.......It doesn't always suck living in a red state

                                   (Photos courtesy of The Hundreds)
About a month ago after a filling breakfast from the Capri I noticed these posters wheat pasted on various buildings threw town. Little did I know that these were a creation from David Choe. His brother Jimmy went on a cross-country tour pasting these posters in every red state he could find. So Idaho being one these Rudolf Nose colored states these posters ended up in my neighborhood. I was able to scrape one of them off a wall kitty corner from the Capri. This was no easy task and getting it off with out tearing was really hard. But perseverance paid off and I can't wait to get it framed and hang it on my wall. Yeah this state is ultra red but I got a bitchin poster out of it and I know who I voted for. Other David Choe stuff to checkout is his show on Vice Tv called Thumbs up and his part in "Vice Guide to Travel" were he goes to find The Last Dinosaur of the Congo.

Hellracer 4 results & stuff.
I shot a ton of pictures.
Thee Warlocks Bicycle Club would like to thank you for joining us in the rain for our fourth annual Halloween alleycat race.I believe the total entry topped at 46 racers and despite the craptastic weather, the hangovers and sugar lows and the sheer brutality of the course (in the dark!), you came out and powered through and we salute you.
I heard arguments as to which stop sucked more and it's a tie between: the flat change frenzy courtesy of Scuglia Fab, the sculpture titled Sprout Bench (I guess it actually is a bench), the funeral home on Fairview and Milwaukee or leaf raking at my house (my son's idea, I swear!). It appeared that most everyone enjoyed themselves and I will choose to speak for the Club by saying we really enjoyed this one and we're stoked our town is so full of good people willing to brave bad weather for a good time. Thanks Boise.
Please continue to support your fellow cyclists and allow your wallets to support the good folks that helped us with this event: The Dutch Goose Tavern, Cyclone Distribution (Charlie's generosity is impressive), Stumptown Coffee (thanks Megan!), Bikes-2-Boards for the Swobo frame(!), Prestige Skateboards, Scuglia Fabrication, Northstar Cycle Courier, Civilian Bicycles and Ink Vision Tattoo.
Thank you to all of our club members and stop workers for their good attitudes and their patience and help.
I'm sure I forgot some folks so let me hear it in the comments and I'll make sure they get the proper recognition.
Withe the entry fees The Warlocks reimbursed our production costs, paid out to first an second in Men's and Women's and had enough left over to buy about 15 pitchers of Pabst + tips for the wait staff.
That's it and that's that, P77 WBC

Race Ready

H4 Update:
This year is proving to be pretty slim from the swag donation network. I spoke with Stevil from Swobo yesterday and he said they are still recovering from all the product they gave away over the summer. Swobo won't have swag to offer to us or anyone else for at least six months he presumed. As great as our local bike scene is, it's one of many. We have gently worn out our welcome with a few local vendors and the "big" companies (Swobo, Cars-R-Coffins, RE-Load, etc...) that encourage these events and have supported us in the past are just maxed out. The economy is in the shitter and the retail sellers are really feeling it. We will have some stuff to raffle (thanks primarily to Charlie from his outpost in Portland) but expect the trinkets and goodies to be at a minimum this time around. We, The Warlocks Bike Club, will offer a good time on bicycles and plenty of beer so I hope you come out for a fun afternoon, even if you don't get a water bottle or new pair of sox at the end.

Sugar Free

Thoroughly sleep deprived and rolling across the BSU campus today, I was marveling at two things:
  1. I was in a really good mood despite being so tired I was hallucinating and
  2. I hadn't had any coffee yet and the deliveries in my bag wouldn't allow it for some time.
Then as if on cue, a mini Cooper with a humongous can of Red Bull on top of it rolled into the parking lot next to me. Awesome. I asked the passenger for a can of sugar-free and she said "What's your name?" I told her and she smiled "well, here's a can with your name on it!". I guzzled it as I rode to my next stop and while I locked the bike up I looked at the empty can, it didn't say P77 anywhere on it. At least it was free.

I'm not above the law, it's just below me.

From the Statesman website today...
Other states ponder Idaho bike law- The Chicago Sun-Times reports on the Idaho law that allows bicyclists to yield instead of stop at red lights and stop signs. In asking whether the law would be right for Illinois, the paper says that Minnesota introduced a similar bill in its Legislature in May, but Oregon shot down a similar proposal. The story quotes Boisean Dwight Tovey who thinks the Idaho law creates in motorists the perception that bicyclists aren't following the rules. "The negatives outweigh the positives," said Tovey, who's an instructor with the League of American Bicyclists. "It sets the bicyclists apart, and it's not that big an advantage."

The Vuelta and the Manifest.

First, I'd like to mention that Alberto Contador won the 2008 Vuelta a Espana. Congratulations to him for that and for winning three Grand Tours in fourteen months. He won the 2007 Tour de France and the 2008 Giro d'Italia as well. Little shit. What happens if Lance Armstrong joins him on Astana? Yeah, what then? The Wife and I will be heading to the 2008 Oregon Manifest Handmade Bike Show held October 10 - 12 in Portland. It's our anniversary weekend and we'll be getting all bikey around Portland without the kids. The weekend finishes with the Cross Crusade/Oregon Manifest Cyclocross Race that I'm at least planning on particpating in. Oh, the pain.
